Child Weight, Age and Fit

When can my child move into a booster seat?

40lbs/18kg and 40”/101cm.

Children can use a clek™ booster seat once they are 40 pounds (18 kilograms) AND 40 inches (101 centimeters) until they reach either 100 pounds (45 kilograms) OR 57 inches (145 centimeters).

However, clek™ recommends that parents not rush their children into a booster seat and keep them in a safety seat with a complete harness system as long as possible.

Check your state laws for additional guidance on booster seat use.

My child’s head is higher than the head restraint. Can I still use the seat?

Proper Seating and Belt Position No. It is not recommended to use any booster seat where the tops of the child’s ears are higher than the top of the vehicle seat back or a fully deployed head restraint on the vehicle seat. If your vehicle does not meet this requirement, then we suggest that you return your booster seat and purchase a high back booster seat that will provide the proper head and neck support.

The shoulder belt crosses my kids neck, what can I do?

Proper Seating and Belt Position When sitting on the booster seat, the shoulder belt MUST lie snug across the mid point of the child’s chest. The lap portion of the seat belt MUST be positioned low and snug on the child’s hips. Some vehicles have a seat belt adjustment feature that allows the shoulder belt portion of the vehicle’s seat belt to be adjusted up and down. Check and see if your vehicle seat belt system can be adjusted so that the shoulder belt lies snug across the mid point of the child’s chest. If you are unable to adjust the seat belt accordingly, the risk of injury to your child increases dramatically and you should not use this booster seat. We recommend that you return your booster seat and use a safety seat with a complete harness system or purchase a high back booster seat.

Travelling with your Booster

Can I use my booster seat on an airplane?

Booster seats can NOT be used on airplanes. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the AAP recommend that when flying, children should be securely fastened in certified child restraints until 4 years of age, and then should be secured with the airplane seat belts. This will help keep them safe during takeoff and landing or in case of turbulence. You can also consider using a restraint made only for use on airplanes and approved by the FAA.

Will my booster seat fit in an airplane overhead compartment?

Both the olli™ and ozzi™ models will fit in most airplane overhead compartments.

Can I use my booster seat outside of US?

Both the ozzi™ and olli™ models are approved for use when travelling throughout Canada and Mexico.

Vehicle Compatibility and LATCH

How do I know if I have LATCH in my car?

LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) refers to the pair of fixed lower anchors built into the crease between the seat back and seat cushion. If not readily visible, the LATCH lower anchors may be noted by a symbol (SHOW SYMBOL) located near the crease between the seat back and seat cushion. For specific vehicles, consult your vehicle’s owner manual or click here to access access our LATCH compatibility chart.

  • 2003 model year vehicles or newer – Yes
  • 2001 & 2002 model year vehicles – Some
  • 2000 model year vehicles and older – No

I don't have LATCH lower anchors in my car. Can I have them installed?

Retrofits for LATCH in vehicles are usually not possible.

I don't have LATCH lower anchors in my car. Can I still use this product?

This booster seat can be used without the LATCH function provided the booster seat is properly positioned on the vehicle seat and the child and the booster seat are properly secured using the vehicle’s seat belts.

What are the benefits of the clek™ booster seat’s rigid LATCH assembly vs. flexible LATCH assembly offered on other products?

Rigid
Booster seat connects to the vehicle’s LATCH anchorage system via a “fixed” or “rigid” bracket designed as part of the frame
“Flexible”
Booster seat connects to LATCH via tether straps.

My vehicle’ owner’s manual states that the middle of the back seat is the safest position to secure your child. The middle seat in my vehicle does not have LATCH. Which position should I use?

This booster seat can be used with or without the LATCH function. All children under 13 are always safest riding in the back seat. The best placement of a child restraint is where it fits securely whether that is in the left, right, or center position. This position MUST have:

  • A shoulder belt – positions with only a lap belt are NOT safe to use
  • The tops of the child’s ears MUST be below the top of the vehicle seat back or a fully deployed head restraint on the vehicle seat. If this condition is not met, a high back booster seat MUST be used.

My vehicle only has a lap belt. How can I secure my booster seat?

NEVER use a booster with only a lap belt.

Installation Issues

The quick release system is not working when I want to remove the booster seat. How do I get it out? What can I do?

Ensure that you have one hand on the front of the booster seat pushing the booster seat towards the vehicle seat back and pulling the quick release strap with the other. Some vehicle seats do not allow for the seat to release without pressure being applied to the front of the booster seat. If the quick release system is still not working, locate the red buttons on the front of the LATCH connectors. Releasing one LATCH connector at a time, use your thumb to press in on one button while using the other hand to pull the booster seat forward. Repeat for the other LATCH connector. If you are still experiencing problems, please notify us at 1-866-656-2462. Do not attempt to make repairs or to otherwise modify or tamper with your booster seat.

When I secure my booster seat to the vehicle’s LATCH system, there is a gap between my booster seat and the vehicle seat back. Is this safe?

Some vehicles have LATCH anchors placed deeper in the crease of the vehicle seat than others, which results in variation in the size of the gap between the back of the booster seat and the back of the vehicle seat. Providing that the child is secured properly in the seat, this is not a safety issue.

When I secure my booster seat to the vehicle’s LATCH system, I have trouble buckling the seat belt. What can I do?

Do NOT secure this booster seat to the vehicle’s LATCH anchorage system if the seat belt or seat belt buckle is not easily accessible with the booster seat latched in place. This booster seat can be used without the LATCH function provided the booster seat is properly positioned on the vehicle seat and the child and the booster seat are properly secured using the vehicle’s seat belts.
